About Us
Mission + Vision
Who We Are: We are a coalition of queer*, trans, and supportive youth workers, educators, and community members in Minnesota working together to build solidarity among those who support queer and trans youth.
Mission: To nourish communities of queer and trans Minnesotan youth in partnership with schools by sharing our resources and creating safer, accessible, affirming events where they can be and explore who they are.
Vision: We envision a state where queer and trans young people feel safe, supported, and welcome in spaces they navigate, and build connections with each other as well as their broader LGBTQIA+ communities. In the world we are working towards, all youth receive education and resources that celebrate their identities in their school, at home and in their neighborhoods.
*We know that people have different feelings about and experiences with the word queer. We choose to use the word queer to reflect the language that the youth we currently serve use in their lives.
Our Board of Directors
In order to better organize, manage, and dedicate ourselves and our time to the coalition, we use a non-hierarchical board system, and our board members serve with equal decision making power as the rest of the coalition. As a coalition, we voted on what the board roles would be called, and developed the titles co-chair(s), treasurer, community engagement coordinator, and scribe (who will act as secretary).
Our board members take very seriously not only the roles they play in supporting MNSOC as a whole, but also the roles they play in supporting the greater LGBTQIA+ community in Minnesota.

Interested in Becoming a Partner?
MNSOC is always looking for representatives from partner organizations to join our coalition. If you work or volunteer for an organization that supports LGBTQIA+ youth in Minnesota, we’d love to have you. As a MNSOC member, you’ll have the opportunity to participate on planning committees for any of our three annual events, and exchange resources, outreach and support with others doing parallel work in our community.
